Sat. June 14, 2014 - Ludington, sweet Ludington

We woke to a beautiful day and had breakfast with Marty and Janette at their house
then went to visit Dunc and Nita - the third couple of parent's friends who were not able to attend dinner last night due to it being Father's Day weekend. They are neighbors and have the same beautiful view of Hamlin Lake we used to enjoy when visiting mom and dad at their place in Tamarack Village.

We took a self directed driving tour of Ludington - first stop the Library, of course a recently ( haven't been here in eight years) updated building
with a beautiful artwork mural in the entryway.
We spent an hour on the computer just to say we did, but there were other important things to do on this beautiful Saturday.

Next, a trip out to Ludington State Park where we took a walk through the campground and introduced ourselves to the camp hosts to find out the scoop here.  Only one camp host for 350 sites - doesn't sound too likely for us since this is a very popular park for hosts as well.

There is a river flowing out from Hamlin Lake to Lake Michigan where there is beautiful beach

so lots of options for outdoor entertainment.  We are happy to be here.

Just enough time to enjoy the beach for a while - not enough time to walk the two miles north along the shore to the Big Au Sable lighthouse -  I did that most recently in 2004 with my mom and dad the last year I was here for an extended visit.

This evening we did some host-sponsored wine tasting
at Lew and Simone's condo on the Ludington channel
where we watched the SS Badger car ferry arrive from Manitowoc, Wisconsin
then had a fried perch dinner at Scotty's
and enjoyed the sunset over Hamlin Lake at 10:15 before bedtime.
