Chair swing #1
came with guacamole and drinks at the half-way point in an afternoon shoreline walk from our hotel to the westernmost edge of Isla Holbox -about two miles each way. It was a hot sunny day and we went in the warm Caribbean Sea several times to cool off along the way and we stayed close to the water
Except when we had to go inland for a couple blocks to get around a shoreline washout. That detour took us past Casa BlatHa, ( thinking of you, Brian Hudson)
a hotel owned by Daniel, a friend of Clau and Lupita, where we had a pre-wedding day dinner last year - thinking of you, Steve and family.
By the time we arrived at the end of the island we were hot and running low on water, so the drinks were necessary, and the swing was a bonus.
Chair swing #2 - compliments of Casa Punta Coco, a hotel on the beach which provided this swing in the water just for the fun of it,
came with soft jazz provided for us today by a live band. (Wearing white and standing by their instruments in the photo below) playing at a private party at the house next door.
Chair swing #3
Came at sunset at a hotel beach bar where Claudia is friends with Ali, one of the bartenders. We took this picture of Clau and Ali to send to Daniel because they are both friends with Daniel, mentioned above who is traveling by sailboat to Portugal now.
Ali gave me kudos for my Spanish and she could understand the challenge since she arrived here from Greece with less Spanish than me, but after living and working here for over a year she is really good. Clau and I sat at her bar until after dark and the mosquitos got the best of us.
Isla Holbox is a small island only a 15 minute ferry ride from the mainland pueblo Chiquila which is very close to Solferino where we spent the previous night at the animal reserve and visited Eric and Clau's land (see El Rancho Del Sol post).
Isla Holbox is a favorite vacation spot for Claudia and her mom, and they brought us here during our first visit to Mexico in 2014.
Everyone in this picture (from 2014) is looking at something they love (sunset, Claudia and me).
Isla Holbox is also the place where Eric and Clau had their wedding ceremony last year on May 7
the wedding was the reason we visited Mexico last year, too.
Isla Holbox is a small island with unpaved streets where golf carts (rather than cars) are used for transportation. The roads were muddy when we arrived due to the recent rain. Here is a picture of the roads on the sunny day
Here is the front door of our hotel, Casa Del Viento.
We learned that taxi rides and street walking can be a bit tricky in the rain and some taxis make their own "Island Time" schedule when it rains. A golf cart is small, but still gets muddy and needs to be washed if it comes out to carry people around in the muddy roads. We did get a ride in time to make the 12:30 ferry off the island back to our car in Chiqula so we could return to Cancun. Bye bye island time!
Love isla holbox !
