Jan - April 2016: South Carlsbad State Beach

We arrived at South Carlsbad State Beach on Dec. 31 and were immediately visited by Roger and Jeannie Martinsen who were being visited by Patti Heapy from Auburn.
and then we went to Martinsen's house for dinner and some more visiting.  Happy New Year!

We are happy to be back in Carlsbad
and on duty as camp hosts for the next four months.
We got one storm during our first week, and another one a few weeks later, and they were both exciting, but that was it for rain in southern California in 2016.

We decided to join the Encinitas Y for some pool and fitness center exercise,

but before our one week trial period ended, Mike fell while trying to sit on the pool bleachers.  He was taken to the emergency room by ambulance and ended up with two broken ribs on the other side from the ones he broke in England last year..
That put an end to our shared exercise, and Mike was in a lot of pain for the several weeks.  In February we hooked up with Mary Pienton in San Juan Capistrano,
attended our 19th Martin Sexton concert,

spent the night at a Marriott in Forest Lake and took a walk at the Dana Point Harbor the next day before returning to the park.

In mid February Mary arrived with her new TAB trailer and set up on our site waiting for March to start camp hosting in San Elijo State Beach.

We had a camp host potluck on Feb 15

when the park closed for 3 weeks to do sewer line maintenance and road paving, so we moved to San Elijo and were on vacation - Very nice.  Duringg that break we had a lunch visit with Roger and Jeannie at Bull Taco.
and we had a visit and went to lunch with our new friends from the Atyical support group, Beth and Mike Roselle.

On March 2 we took the train to San Diego with the Martinsens

to meet up with Dollie and Richard Graydon who were there on shore leave from a cruise ship.  We went to lunch at Dick's Last Resort.
On March 9-11 we had visitors from Rocklin -  Kelly and Jim came down and stayed at the Hilton across the street.
We discovered a handicapped accessible place to walk at South Ponto where we went a number of times in the spring while Mike was still able to walk.
On March 24 we left to drive to Phoenix where we had an electric lift installed so Mike didn't need to navigate the stairs anymore - VERY good move.

we visited with Laverne and Bill in Ariona City the next day,
and stopped to visit with Jimmy and Monique the next night
I went for a hike with Jimmy in his neighborhood the last morning before heading back to Carlsbad.
On April 6 we had a visit from Chris and John Boykin who came down to stay with the Martinsens for a coulpe days.
the rest of April flew by as we were preparing to take a 3.5 week trip to Mexico.  More on that in the next post.
