Jan. 1, 2013: Day 1 - Candlestick Point RV Park

Today is the first day of Mike and my next phase of life - empty nesters, no grandkids on the near horizon, able to work wherever we are  - compliments of the Internet.  How fitting that we start in San Francisco - where we began our life together 31 years ago in January 1982 after moving to San Francisco from Michigan.

First order of business is to review the last few days and thank the people who helped launch us on this journey.

The move out of our house was WAY harder than we anticipated and could not have been accomplished in a timely manner without the help of  two generous and hard working couples who came by and recognized our need for help. Heartfelt thanks go to John and Chris Boykin and Rich and Dollie Little-Graydon for the energetic way they helped us sort, load deliver our household belongings to the appropriate place - motor home, storage, donate or trash.

Thanks to Chris and John for feeding us the first two nights or our move out experience and for housing us the last 3 nights we spent in our Lake of the Pines neighborhood.  Thanks for bringing your trailer to ferry our goods to storage. You are hard workers, good hosts and  great friends.

Thanks to Rich Graydon and Dollie Little Graydon for your eagerness to help with the move, for your truck to haul away the trash and for your willingness to sort and organize the donatable items. You are hard workers, good hosts and great friends.

Thanks to Boykins, Gardners, Yvonne Turner,  Curetons, Jenny Redmond, and all the other who spread the word to find a new home for our two cats and to Patti Heapy for stepping up to adopt them. What a wonderful gift that was, to us and to the cats!

Thanks to Kelly Trayer Dempsey for help with stuff and for housing us the final night befor our departure.

Thanks to all our friends who came by the house to purchase some of our household belongings to "keep it in the family".   I look forward to future visits to see some of my favorite things of your homes.

We are grateful for all your help, well wishes and friendship. We will be back to visit, but in the meantime are happy to share our travel experience with you via this blog. Please keep in touch when the spirit moves you and we will do the same.

After a visit with local family on  Dec 31 and Jan 1, off we went to San Francisco and Candlestick Point RV Park -very much looking forward to the future!

Happy Road Trails!

  1. My dear sweet friend~
Thank you for including me in your new way of "communication" as you begin the journey of your new Path of Life! I'm thrilled for you and Mike... but I'm going to miss seeing you as often. You and Mike are doing exactly what Rich had talked about a couple of years before he got ill. I'm sure he would be giving you both the thumbs up if he was still here. I'm looking forward to hearing about all of your adventures... you are truly "living the dream." Good for you guys! Stay safe and know that you will always be in my prayers and thoghts. May God bless you each day. Love you~ BIG HUGS!!!

    1. Hi Marian! Thanks for the words of support and encouragement. It is now Sunday evening, and we've had a great week. I'm sure the excitement will calm down and we will develop a bit of normalcy, but for now, we are enjoying the change. Thumbs up to you and Rich in return, for supporting this unusual decision. We will definitely let you know when we return to the area. Maybe we can park in your drive for a night or two to visit? I'm going to miss this first(and the next) PEO meeting since we will be in San Francisco seeing our two kids off to the airport for their next adventure to Mexico City and southern destinations. Love, Denise
