Aug 24 - Aug 30 2nd visit from Bill and Laverne, Hike with Eric and Claudia

This Sunday we enjoyed a 2nd visit from our fellow camp hosing friends Bill and Laverne, and another nice picnic lunch at the lake with music from the local group Groove Foundry
On Monday evening we took a polenta / veggie casserole to Eric's house and ate it with them for dinner after we had a short hike up to the peak above Cal Neva to see the lake at sunset.  Beautiful!

I should mention it is not all fun and games - we work during the day, too.  We spend a lot of time at:
and several nice coffee shops in town, Coffee Bar, Tuff Beanz and Dark Horse Coffee, as well as a new venue for us - the Truckee Airport

where we park near the planes.
These jets make a lot of noise when they take off - we can see the runway from our campsite.

Aug 17 - 23 Lake Tahoe entertainment abounds

Sunday we went to Tahoe City Commons Beach to hear and see Dead Winder Carpenters,
We took a picnic and moved four times along the sand at the beach during the afternoon to stay n the sun where it was warm.  Not bad view of the lake from the west shore.
Then on Tuesday we went to Sand Harbor state park on the north east shore and attended a showing of "As you Like It"
at the Lake Tahoe Shakespear Festival
with Eric and Claudia
and a picnic dinner.
It was dark by intermission, but still beautiful - the lake was behind the stage
and the moon and stars were bright.
Then for act three.....
we went to Truckee River Regional Park on Wednesday for live music in the ampitheatre
and ice cream provided by Dr. Barry the local sports therapy chiropractor
before we went home to cook dinner. ( enjoy life, eat dessert first?)
and finally we went to Truckee Thursdays in downlown Truckee
and listened to the excellent voice of Emily Quinn
accompanied by Lucan Arins on the classical guitar.
Lots of options for entertainment in Truckee / Lake Tahoe in the summer!

Aug 10 - 16, 2014 - One month here already??????

Where does the time go?  Camp host work, Accounting work, exercise, cooking and good eating - and a month flies by.  This we we started planning for some Chatty repairs b driving her in to Reno to see an RV repair shop on Monday to get an estimate.  While in Reno, we stopped in to Cabelas  our first time ever in that store - and purchased two recliner lounge chairs for out outdoor relaxing
and a new gas grill for our outdoor cooking - both very much appreciated.

Aug 3 - 9, 2014 - First visitors and lunch with Dad

We contacted Laverne and Bill who we worked with at New Hogan last summer for a few weeks.  They came up from there on their days off and camped in our park.  We took them to Tahoe City to the free music to see Mumbo Gumbo on Sunday afternoon,  Eric and Claudia came to visit with us as well.

It rained on Monday, so the BarBQdinner and campfire we planned turned into a progressive dinner
inside Laverne and Bills camper for the first course
and then main dish and dessert at our place - sorry, no picture :(

On our next days off we drove in to Sacramento.  Connie ordered a van to bring dad home
so we could all have lunch together at her house
.
then we went to spend the night at Kelly's house after our work day was complete.
On Wednesday evening we had dinner at Steve and Terri's house to help Steve celebrate his birthday.

July 27 - Aug. 2, 2014 - Living in the mountains - lovely!

Claudia was away for a week visiting with girlfriends in San Diego, Los Angeles and Tijuana, so we invited Eric to join us for dinner on Sunday night at Jason's in Kings Beach.
We had our first evening campfire on Monday night - the park was very quiet and peaceful.
We learned about a CSA ( Community Supported Agriculture) delivery from the foothills in Truckee and signed up for the time we will be here.  Our first delivery was on July 31.

We signed up for fruits and vegetables
There is a farmer's market at Regional Park on Tuesday mornings as well,
so we are all set for good food the rest of the summer.

The lake is low but the Martis Creek Valley and the surrounding mountains are beautiful.
We are happy to be here!

July 20 - 26, 2014 Getting our bearings in Truckee

We are "on duty" at the park Thursday - Monday with Tues and Wed off.  There park is small - only 25 campsites and there is not a lot of work required - mostly we answer questions of incoming campers at our site because they pass us first before they get to the campground, and we do landscaping and empty campsite cleaning.

The Truckee Library is one of the smaller, older libraries we have seen, but it is close and has good internet.  We spent the first week checking out other work locations in town, but are not in love with any.  Good news is there is good internet at our site and it is pleasant being here, so we do work here in the AM's comfortably.

This week we drove to Sacramento and Auburn during our first off duty days to visit with Dad and Connie, pick up the mail and drop in on a few clients. We stayed at Connie's house on Tuesday night and with the Boykins on Wednesday night after a nice gathering of friends at the LOP sports Lounge for Burger Night.
I came back alone on Thursday because Mike had a board meeting with a client in Sacramento on Friday.  I went to the weekly street festival - Truckee Thursdays for dinner and live street music on Thursday night.
and enjoyed a view of the Truckee River in downtown Truckee on the way.

July 15 - 19 Settling in At Martis Creek Lake

We were not quite sure what to expect when we got here - we believed there was good internet and there is. We knew there was only one camp host, but did not realize what a beautiful campground and camp host site we would get to occupy for the next 10 weeks.
Our ranger, Jacquie was out on training, so the first three days we were unassigned.  We got settled into our site with an easy but delicious pesto pasta dinner the first night.
Then drove the 15 minute trip down Hwy 267 to Kings beach and had dinner with Eric and Claudia at their house on the 2nd night.  It was good to reconnect and hear about their time since we saw them last in May before we left for our trip to Michigan. Eric is working for the National Forest Service this summer and they are renting a room in a house in Kings beach from some nice young adults.  They are in a good spot, too.
